Amethyst is a purple crystal and occurs in primary hues from a light lavender to a deep purple. The crystal was used as a gemstone by the ancient Egyptians. The belief that the crystal posses healing property date back thousands of years. The Greeks believed amethyst could prevent intoxication while medieval soldiers wore amethyst amulets as protection. While in England beads of amethyst were found in Anglo-Saxon graves.
